Description
Halibut is the largest of all flatfish. It is well known for its delicate, flakey white meat.
Alaska, or Pacific halibut has a mild, yet slightly sweet flavor and a firm texture. Its ease of preparation makes it incredibly versatile. Halibut can be prepared almost any way. Baked, Broiled, grilled, or sautéed. It is best known in dishes like halibut Olympia, halibut tacos, and fish ‘n’ chips.
In July 2014, 76-year-old Jack McGuire caught what would have been the largest halibut caught on record, a 482-pound Pacific halibut in Glacier Bay, Alaska. This is, however, discounted from records because it was shot to prevent injury to those on the boat.
